JOB DESCRIPTION

We are a small farm raising pesticide-free vegetables, fruits, flowers and pastured chicken in lower Alamance county.  We are 2 people who sell direct to our customers through farmers’ markets and CSA.  We’re looking for someone to work seasonally, 35 hrs/wk, April to September for $8.00/hr.  Experience in farming preferred but not necessary.  An interest in learning how small farms work is strongly preferred.

The job is physically demanding but the tasks are various. You will be working primarily with Joann in the fruit/veg/flower fields 75% of the time and with chickens 25% of the time.  Duties include: seeding, planting, trellising, weeding, harvesting, washing and packing vegetables and flowers.  On few occasions helping at Saturday market.  Daily care of 800-1000 chickens includes: moving pasture pens, feeding, watering, cleaning waterers & feeders, carrying 40lb waterers and 50lb feed bags.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Willingness to work with chickens raised for meat & handle chickens humanely at all times.  We take great pains and our customers pay good money for our chickens to be treated humanely and live healthy lives, but please consider if working with animals raised for meat is the right job for you before contacting us.
• Strong work ethic- not only being dependable but striving to become more productive, efficient & faster as you gain experience throughout the season. 
• Ability to lift 50 lbs repeatedly and 75 lbs occasionally
• Endurance of insect bites, dirt, chicken droppings, hot and wet weather conditions and lots of bending, reaching, lifting and carrying.
• Ability to efficiently work on your own.
